Every Fair Term report scores a Terms & Conditions page across eight dimensions. Here's what each one means — and what a user-friendly contract looks like in practice.
Whether the terms hide charges that will cost you money.
User-friendly
Upfront pricing, clear cancellation, and no recurring fees or shipping costs buried in the fine print.
Red flag
Auto-renewing subscriptions, free trials that convert to paid, hidden shipping or postage, and return or restocking fees.
How your personal data is collected, shared, and protected.
User-friendly
Clear limits on what data is collected, no selling to third parties, and strong security commitments.
Red flag
Broad collection of sensitive data, vague sharing with 'partners', or no real security promises.
How much you must bet before you can withdraw bonus winnings (common on gambling and betting sites).
User-friendly
Low or no wagering multipliers (e.g. 1x–10x), generous time limits, and clear game contribution rates.
Red flag
High multipliers (40x or more) that make bonuses nearly impossible to convert to cash, short expiry windows, and game types that contribute little or nothing toward the requirement.
How much responsibility the company takes if something goes wrong.
User-friendly
Reasonable caps on liability that still let you recover real losses, and clear responsibility for gross negligence.
Red flag
Total exclusion of liability for any harm, including the company's own mistakes or data loss.
Whether the company can change the terms without asking you.
User-friendly
Advance notice of material changes, and the right to reject changes and stop using the service.
Red flag
Silent or retroactive changes, or 'we may update these terms at any time' with no notice.
How and when your access to the service can end.
User-friendly
Clear reasons for termination, notice periods, and a fair process to retrieve your data.
Red flag
Instant account deletion at the company's sole discretion with no warning and no data export.
How conflicts between you and the company are resolved.
User-friendly
Choice of small-claims court, reasonable arbitration, and transparent venue rules.
Red flag
Forced arbitration that bans class actions, in a distant venue, with fees shifted onto you.
How clearly and honestly the terms are written.
User-friendly
Plain language, logical structure, and no buried clauses that surprise a reasonable reader.
Red flag
Legalese walls of text, contradictory clauses, and important terms hidden in dense paragraphs.
