Overview
Fair Term ("we", "us", "our") operates a website at fair-term.com and a browser extension ("Fair Term" or the "Extension") available on the Chrome Web Store. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the website or Extension, you agree to the practices described here.
What the Extension Collects
- Page URL: When you click "Analyze", the Extension sends the URL of the current page to our servers so we can fetch and analyse the terms.
- Page text: The Extension captures the visible text content of the page you are viewing and sends it to our servers for analysis. This text is the legal document you are reading — we do not capture passwords, form inputs, payment data, or content from pages you do not explicitly analyse.
- No browsing history: The Extension does not track which pages you visit. It only acts when you click the analyse button.
- Cookie banner diagnostics: If you enable the optional cookie-banner auto-handler and it encounters a banner it cannot handle, the domain name and the reason it failed are sent to us for debugging. No personal data is included.
What the Website Collects
- Account information: When you create an account, we store your email address and name. This is used for authentication and to associate your saved analyses with your account.
- Analysis reports: The fairness reports you generate are stored in your account so you can revisit them later. If you are part of a team workspace, reports shared with that team are visible to other team members.
- Payment information: If you upgrade to a paid plan, payment is processed by our payment provider (Wix Payments). We do not store your card details — only the order status and the plan you purchased.
How We Use Your Data
- To generate fairness reports from terms and conditions text.
- To save and display your analysis history within your account.
- To monitor terms pages for changes when you enable monitoring.
- To send you emails you have explicitly requested (e.g. report delivery, change alerts) and a welcome email with tips when you start a Pro trial.
- To improve our analysis accuracy and develop new features.
AI Processing
Terms text is sent to an AI language model for analysis. The model reads the text to identify red flags and produce a fairness score. We do not use your terms text to train AI models. The text is processed for the sole purpose of generating your report.
Data Retention
Your analysis reports are kept until you delete them from your account. If you close your account, all associated data is removed. The raw terms text extracted from a page is retained only as long as needed to serve your report and any monitoring you have enabled.
Third-Party Services
- AI provider: Processes terms text to generate analysis.
- Base44 Payments: Handles subscription billing for paid plans.
- Google services: Used for authentication if you sign in with Google.
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We share only the minimum data necessary to provide the service.
Your Rights
- Access: You can view all your saved analyses in your account.
- Deletion: You can delete any analysis report at any time. You can close your account to remove all your data.
- Monitoring: You can enable or disable change monitoring on any report at any time.
Extension Permissions
The Extension requests the following permissions, each used only for its stated purpose:
- activeTab: To read the text of the current page when you click "Analyze".
- storage: To remember your preferences within the Extension.
- tabs: To open the analysis results in a new tab.
Children's Privacy
Fair Term is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
