Transparency matters — especially for a tool that analyses legal documents. Here's exactly what happens when you paste a URL, how our scores are produced, and where the limits are.
We fetch the Terms & Conditions page and extract the readable text — stripping out the code, navigation, and boilerplate. For JavaScript-rendered sites, our browser extension reads the live text straight from the page as you see it in your browser.
The extracted text is sent to a large language model with a specialised legal-tech prompt. The AI evaluates each clause against eight fairness dimensions and identifies red flags, positive aspects, and hidden costs.
Each dimension receives a 0–100 score (higher = fairer to you). The overall fairness score is a weighted aggregate. Red flags are classified by severity: critical, high, medium, or low.
The structured analysis is translated into a readable report with a summary, category breakdown, red flags with excerpts, positive aspects, and actionable recommendations.
Fairness Score (0–100)
The AI weighs the eight category dimensions together with the severity of any red flags to produce a single overall score. It is a holistic judgement, not a fixed formula — a single critical red flag (such as a hidden auto-renewal) can pull the score down sharply even when other dimensions are fair. Higher means more balanced and transparent toward the end user. Scores of 75+ are considered fair; 50–74 are moderate; below 50 indicates significant concerns.
Category Scores
Each of the eight dimensions (data privacy, liability, unilateral changes, termination, dispute resolution, transparency, costs & billing, and wagering requirements) is scored independently so you can see exactly where a contract is strong or weak.
Red Flag Severity
Red flags are classified as critical (could cause serious harm or financial loss), high (significant unfairness), medium (worth noting), or low (minor concern). Each includes a plain-English explanation and, where possible, a suggested fairer alternative clause.
Data privacy
How well your personal data is protected and your privacy rights are respected — data sharing, retention, and your right to access or delete it.
Liability limitation
Whether the company unfairly caps its own responsibility for harm to you, or shifts risk onto the user.
Unilateral changes
Whether the company can change the terms without notice or your consent, leaving you bound to clauses you never agreed to.
Termination rights
Fairness of account suspension and termination clauses — notice periods, reasons, and your right to your data after closure.
Dispute resolution
Fairness of arbitration, class-action waivers, and jurisdiction clauses that determine how and where you can challenge the company.
Transparency
Clarity, readability, and the absence of hidden or surprising clauses buried in long or dense text.
Costs & billing
Whether charges are clear or obscured — recurring subscriptions, auto-renewals, free trials that convert to paid, hidden fees, and cancellation costs.
Wagering requirements
Playthrough and rollover rules common on gambling sites that dictate how much you must bet before withdrawing winnings. Scored only when present.
